Computational model updating is a special ICS service to validate FE models. By updating multiple selected parameters of the model simultaneously a minimization of the test/analysis differences can be achieved.

Typical applications:

  • Validation of FE models for subsequent analyses, e.g. for determination of flange loads via validated models as input for more detailed (static) models
  • Investigation of modeling strategies, e.g. the validation of components and subsequent modeling of accessories/interfaceses
  • Localization of critical model regions for remodeling
  • Identification of unknown parameters, e.g. stiffnesses and damping of bearings/seals
  • Tuning of reduced FE models to data obtained via fine FE models (discretization) to reduce of analysis times

ICS.sysval - FE model validation software

The ICS.sysval software developed at ICS is used for computational model updating. ICS.sysval is a software for test planning, test/analysis correlation and computational model updating. ICS.sysval operates under Mathworks MATLAB® (Version 7.5 or higher) and thus is platform independent! For computational model updating the FE-solvers MSC Nastran™ or Altair OptiStruct™ are utilized (sensitivity modules).

ICS.sysval provides the capabilities to optimally design vibration tests and to validate FE models utilizing the acquired test data.

The following modules are available:

  • Test planning (optimal pick-up and exciter placement)
  • Test/analysis correlation (MAC, COMAC)
  • Visualization/animation
  • Parameter localization and sensitivity analysis
  • Computational model updating

ICS.sysval Module

At present interfaces exist for MSC Patran™, MSC Nastran™, and Altair OptiStruct™. Test data can be imported from standard Universal files.
